Whistler while you work

I was thinking of writing about the train bombings last week, or the Lebanon war, but things are just getting way too depressing. I'm getting frustrated just thinking about all this, so I'll leave all that aside.

I spent the day in Whistler, British Columbia: future site of many events of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and one of North America's most popular ski destinations. I always expected that the natural beauty of Canada would likely exceed anything else I had seen during my world travels, and here's the confirmation:

I just bought this digital camera a few days ago; I'm not too happy with it, unfortunately. More photos here.

Update 7.20.2006: I was able to return the camera, even after taking over a hundred pictures and exhausting the included batteries. Yay for free rentals!

  1. That 'hand', elegant though it may be, is somewhat distracting, at least to me. :-)

  2. Thanks Safiyyah, it didn't bother me until you mentioned it and now it's a major distraction!

Beautiful images. Are these the coastal mountains? I remember flying over the Rockies and getting the bird's eye view, that was amazing.

P.S. I was in a plane, not flapping.

  3. I think Faraz needs to fade the background a bit to help make it easier to read the blog entries.

Glad to see that you're enjoying your time in British Columbia, Faraz. Any plans to return to the East anytime soon - most notably Toronto? :)

  4. Assalamu'alaykum all,
I don't like the background too much either, but I haven't had the necessary tools at my disposal to fix things up. I haven't really spent much time in my apartment in almost two months; I've been working mainly from internet stations and office computers after hours.

I do have intentions to change it, but probably not until I have some time in my apartment. The whole summer has been a blur, in France and Chicago and now British Columbia. But it will be fixed; you have my word.

Shan: These were not part of the Rockies; they are further west, less than three hours north of Vancouver. Here's the location on Google Maps.

Nauman: Yes, Civic Day weekend I'll be in Toronto for Munni's wedding. I may fly directly there, I'm not sure. I haven't booked anything for that weekend yet. I should be back in Ottawa this Friday before returning to BC on Sunday.

Update 7.16.2006: I just downloaded and used a combination of several free image editing tools, and used my Whistler pictures for the background. Hopefully, this is more readable.

  5. You should always warn people of the graphic images in the link, as some people are squamish.

  6. Look, your old blog background: gandaghee.blogspot.com

    Now you can feel nostalgic.

  7. Yikes, I'm glad I changed it. That doesn't make me feel very nostalgic at all; rather, I find myself wondering, "what was I thinking?" That 'hand' certainly is a distraction.

I think it looks reasonable for now; not too distracting, quick to load, and visually pleasing in all browsers I've tested it with. (Firefox, IE, Opera... my stats say that 2% are coming in on Safari, but I haven't been able to test that. Safarians, let me know.) More importantly, it's entirely my own work: my own stylesheet, my own images, my own customization.
