It is amazing really how common alcohol-related tragedies are, and yet how little is done about it aside from a handful of public service announcements on television. At the same time, they love pointing out that "moderate drinking" can have some benefits. It is mentioned in the Quran also that there are some benefits, but the harms far outweigh them - and we have all witnessed those harms! Thus, it is no surprise that it was prohibited.

Cookie: Thanks for visiting. I'm glad to see my hockey analogy made sense to people outside Canada and US.

AnonyMouse: Wa'alaykum assalam. You're right, it is part of human nature - whatever we are passionate about can also make us insane.

Amy: Wa'alaykum assalam, thanks for visiting. I'm sure that any sport with such any following will arouse passion, and consequently anger, in people if they given the right catalyst.Frazzahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02611431995183800220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9326984.post-1355940701235142242008-04-25T00:36:00.000-04:002008-04-25T00:36:00.000-04:00SalaamThat was brilliant. It is not uncommon for the major rival football and basketball games around here to be accompanied by absurdities like pulling a goalpost and carrying it through downtown. I'll look at it differently now. Anything at all that brings people together will fuel strong emotions, and there are some people who will take an extra step and take it too far.AnonyMousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15056448129618139959noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9326984.post-38835158258570099702008-04-24T04:03:00.000-04:002008-04-24T04:03:00.000-04:00The way you have presented the entire scenario is ...The way you have presented the entire scenario is really good. You do leave an impact.

My husband and I, along with millions of health professionals around the world, get to see on a daily basis, the extent of the damage that alcohol causes.

Yet, because so many people enjoy 'moderate drinking', there are hardly as many laws against it as there are against tobacco. This was recently pointed out in a local medical journal as well.

I was shocked the first time I admitted a 13-year-old girl who was drunk - I was even more shocked by the attitude the staff had towards her the next morning as we discharged her - it was indulgent, to say the least. "You're not allowed to drink until you're 18", was all that the consultant told her, before he smiled, patted her head and went on to the next patient.mummyjaanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11439816857061091370noreply@blogger.com
