Action Alert: Save Target Theory!

When I wrote that I would be ending this blog, I didn't expect it to set off a reaction that would indirectly lead to the end of the blog of my cousin Nauman. Most of you who read my blog either only came to know of it's existence through Nauman, or have become fans of Nauman through my link.

And now he wants to leave! I feel responsible and rather disappointed by this, so I'm briefly reopening comments in order for you, loyal readers and ex-readers, to show your support for Nauman through your comments. In spite of his melancholic nature, Nauman remains a champion of good will and dependability for all his friends and family, and is among my short list of favourite people I have the pleasure of being related to.

So sign away! Let Nauman know that you want his voice to be heard!

Update 6.14.2007: Success! Well done, team.

While I know you weren't looking for comments about concluding your blog, all the best to you brother. The articulation of your thoughts have benefitted me, and I pray that they continue to benefit others in your life.

As for brother Nauman, ah... I think he too has been waiting for the right time to step away. Blogs are a kind of trap in some way. They're good, but for some, such as myself, the worth of it diminished as time passed, and its purpose amounted to nothing. I think Nauman's decision isn't hasty, though it conincides with yours. Allahu'alim.

To you, ya Nauman, do what you need to do brother. Blogging is a pass time, a hobby, a tool for good, and sometimes simply a waste of time. All the best to you too as you progress through life.

May Allah bless the Abbasi family, whom I've come to know of from here. Ameen. All the best, insha'Allah :).

Keep on striving for the eternal, and all is worth it :).

    Peace!

  4. I'm going to have to agree with the post. I don't think Nauman should end his blog. His posts are interesting, and often make me see an issue in a completely different light :D

See Nauman? If Faraz reopened commenting just for you, that's saying a lot!

  5. I appreciate the sentiments... but my blog wasn't shut down because of Faraz. Farzeen was right in that I was looking to step away in some regards and I found it more and more difficult to sustain my blog. In recent times, I felt it become a burden due to the actions of some and that was the reason that led to its closure.

Target Theory lives on with the people...

  6. I thought the blog was quite informative. :) And if it serves as a catharsis for the author, should continue.

  7. Man, two great blogs down in one day! That's horrible...

(okay, I haven't checked the blogs in a bit, but still).

My wife and I enjoyed both blogs quite alot, and would check in when we could. I understand and respect the reasons for closing them, but I think you may be under-estimating the good that came from your blogs. People need to hear more reasonable voices on the issues of the day. If well spoken (or written), those words will be repeated in other places, to other people... in the real world, as Nauman said. Without those messages getting out there, the water-cooler talk will only echo the mainstream media.

If you are truly writing only for yourself, then stop.

But if you are writing in order that truth may be separated from lies and falsehood, that people may learn verses of the Quran and apply them in their lives, that people may put aside their false conceptions and learn to love each other for the sake of Allah, that people may recognize the fallacies of our modern lifestyle and take steps to improve it, that people may understand and love the religion that Allah has perfected for us and recognize that it is as relevant and vital today as it was 1400 years ago,... then... then you are doing the work of the Prophet, peace be upon him. Then don't stop.

    V.

  8. I see why you posted this, Faraz bh... I felt (and still feel) my last comment on TT wasn't helpful for keeping the blog alive. :S Although Nomi bh's been very gracious and says my comment was okay, I still feel guilty. :|

I was sorry when your blog went out of business too. Hard times. I've been feeling very shaky about mine too, although I started a new one recently. What good is a blog when you're not motivated to post on it?

    I'm lost.

  9. Ameera, I had no intention of starting a trend! Well, I suppose there's only one way of solving this problem by bucking the trend and deleting my "Fin" post.

I've thought a lot about this over the last few days, and Viqar's comment above reinforces what I was thinking: there's no point in putting it behind me. I'm glad that I took this "break" of sorts, because it helped me rethink a few thing, but there's no reason to make the break permanent. I learned a few valuable lessons from some very valuable people during this time, and I'm happy to say that they've convinced me to change my mind.

I've discovered three relatives through this blog, have communicated with a number of wonderful people, and have smiled numerous times thanks to all the great readers. Even though there have been the occasional weirdos who have put me off in the past, that's no reason to give up entirely.

Ameera, don't feel lost. If you really don't have motivation, then do as you must. But I think Viqar had some good points, and you've always been one to articulate your thoughts exceedingly well masha-Allah.

With that said, I will keep things going. That doesn't mean I'll be posting any more regularly then I do right now, because I'm still terribly busy and have a number priorities ahead of this. But when thoughts of irrelevance strike me, insha-Allah those thoughts will continue to be documented here.

    The smiles we provide
    are simply a response to
    the smiles you inspire

  11. What's this I hear about Faraz starting his blog again? Hahaha, this is great news. But now I begin to think that this whole thing with Nauman may have been orchestrated so interest in both your blogs could be restablished. Very interesting indeed.

I kid. Welcome back, I'm glad to hear it :)

  12. Hehe, that was really good Faraz bh. Thanks for re-motivating me! However, I must admit all this emotional stuff over the past few days was quite enough to rekindle the spirit within... blah... I'm keeping my blog, too!

The reason I checked back on your blog today was to insist upon you that you MUST keep your blog! But it was great to see you've already made up your mind in that respect! :)

Too much emotional stuff for one day. Mabrook, everyone! As long as the blogs are online, even if the posts arne't very frequent, we're okay! :)

    Assalam-o-alaikum!

    Woo hooo! :)

Thanks for the inspiring words brother Viqar. Amen to that!

  14. Saira: Catharsis! That's a great word.

    Hooptygoo: Aww, thanks. :)

Asmaa: Now that I think of it, that would be a good way of promoting some blog if I were so inclined. If only we were so clever as to orchestrate such a popularity stunt, but alas, we are not. Or are we...

Ameera: Wa'alaykum assalam. Thank you for the kind words. I don't think I'll be posting very frequently, but I didn't really find any reason to say goodbye for good. I'm glad I'm not addicted to blogging, but it's a nice tool to have available when need be.

Farzeen: Wa'alaykum assalam. Viqar is just full of inspiring words, masha-Allah.

  15. Assalaamu'alaykum

A bit off topic here. This is not really for publishing, but I don't see a contact email address.

Since you're based in Vancouver ... have you encountered the community newspaper al-Ameen? I know they are looking for good writers and you have the type of thought-provoking content and writing style that would be well suited.

If you are interested, you could contact editor@alameen.ca
